Are you tired of looking over your shoulder to see if the “Duo of Death” (your boss followed by an HR assistant with a box) are coming to your desk to give you a pink slip? There are a few things you can do that will make you a more valuable employee that will help you make the cut.
Take ownership of your job. Treat each task as if you were doing something for yourself. In the long run you really are.
Don’t complain. Ever! Only babies whine and nobody wants to work with a cry baby.
If you make a mistake, own up to it right away! Take responsibility for it. Bosses understand that we are all human and that we all make mistakes. If you feel pain from a mistake, you will most likely learn from it and not repeat it.
When you receive praise, spread the glow around and say you are part of a great team. Whether you think it or not, you probably are.
Give 200% when your actions are not visible to your boss and co-workers. Give 120% when they are. The cream always rises.
When you talk on the phone, surf the web or send emails, know that someone is watching everything you do and say.
Never steal from your company. Including long personal phone conversations, office supplies or using the office copier.
If you see a group of 2 or more employees standing in the hallway talking, keep moving. Bosses don’t like it when staffers shoot the bull.
Treat your companies vendors with respect. They may offer you a job someday.
